Like many indigenous cultures throughout the world, the Cayuse, Nez Perce, and Sahaptin speaking peoples are experiencing unprecedented change. Among the more dramatic changes are those having to do with language. Presently, only 1% of the local population are able to speak the language of their ancestors. This trend has to change!

The goal of meadowlarkheart.org is simple. It is designed to raise awareness about the fragile state of our languages and dialects that are currently heard throughout the southern Columbia Plateau region of western North America. It is one person’s call to action and hopefully a change for the better.
